On Sunday, June 10, from 5 - 7 pm, Terry is taking over the store for a fundraiser celebration for the Team Cul de Sac Collection. Richard Thompson, the cartoonist behind Cul de Sac, was one of the first authors to visit the store and I'm not sure who was more thrilled - Terry and me or all the other fans who couldn't wait to talk with him in person.
Please join us for wine and light snacks to celebrate the launch of Team Cul de Sac: Cartoonists Draw the Line at Parkinson's which contains original artwork from cartoonists and illustrators inspired by the comic strip Cul de Sac. Several of the contributors live here in the DC area and will be on hand to sign copies. A portion of the day's sales will go to Team Cul de Sac, which is part of the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
About the book:
Chris Sparks, a professional web designer, is leading the Team Cul de Sac (TCDS) fundraising effort in honor of his friend Richard Thompson, who has Parkinson's disease. With Richard's support, TCDS asked cartoonists across the country to draw his characters so the artwork could be compiled into a fundraising book and the artwork auctioned to raise additional money.
Hundreds of cartoonists responded and sent artwork for Team Cul de Sac: Cartoonists Draw the Line at Parkinson's, including Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes fame, Garry Trudeau (Doonesbury), Nick Galifianakis, Mo Willems (The Pigeon books), Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine), Pat Oliphant (Pulitzer Prize winning political cartoonist), Gene Weingarten and David Clark (Barney & Clyde), Mason Mastroianni (B.C.), Roger Langridge (Muppet Show comic book, Marvel's Thor: The Mighty Avenger, Fred the Clown), Shannon Gallant (G.I.Joe), Michael Cavna (Washington Post) and more.
